features

Paduan broccoli belongs to the large botanical family Cruciferae, from the shape of their flowers (Latin Crucifer “the bearer of the cross”), the genus is Brassica oleracea var. italica — Plenk.
Like other brassicas, it is among the few vegetables that contain all the vitamins and minerals necessary for humans, known since ancient times for their therapeutic and healing characteristics. Padovano Broccolo is an old “leafy” variety, which resists frosts well, indeed these improve its taste and quality; in the past, in a context that has not yet been globalized, it represented a precious food reserve for late winter.

The seed has been recovered and selected over the years thanks to the “Ecotypes” project, where the farmer himself favors and selects the reproduction of the best specimens of

a certain plant population.

Producers

Padua

In particular, ours is a selection developed in the “countryside” immediately south of Padua, obtained by crossing broccoli with black cabbage; for this reason he is called a bastard, and has the characteristic of having a softer and more consistent heart.
