Biotour 2019 - The treasures of the Modena Apennines - photo and story!

19.09.19

The first appointment of Biotour 2019 is full of ideas, a journey to discover quality organic food.

First stop, the Punto Verde farm in Savignano sul Panaro: anti-pest nets to protect orchards, rediscovery of old varieties of apricots (Bella d'Imola), research, collaboration and intelligence are what we found accompanied by the owner Luigi Castiglioni in this beautiful family-run company, who for El Tamiso deals with the transformation of tomato sauce into tomato pieces and basil sauce. It's difficult to get up from the table at the Belvedere restaurant, which offers a restaurant (and what a restaurant...!!!) entirely with organic products in the center of Guiglia, cleverly prepared by the family of the well-known chef Giovanni Montanari. Following the biggest piece of the visit, our historic partner Valerio Abbiate: the extreme farmer, the potato acrobat who with great determination pursued his idea of doing (organic) mountain agriculture, adapting to the conditions that nature placed and consequently choosing the most suitable crops: Montese potatoes (a valuable local variety) and cereals such as lentils, barley, single-coconut spelt and spelt, cicerchia... The fleet of machines of processing, many of which are adapted with the collaboration of small local artisans to the needs of processing and to the harshness of the place. Last stop is the Rocca di Vignola, an impressive medieval fortress, transformed into a residence and enriched with stuccos and frescoes, by the Contrari dynasty in 1400.

Next appointment on June 9: in Chioggia to visit our partner company Terra Viva, run around the lagoon by boat and taste local products, not to be missed!!!!
