The path of the Cooperative for traditional cereals

Some time ago we started as a Cooperative a small journey, which in part we also talked about during our birthday party at Costigliola, for the recovery of some types of plants that are important agronomic and food resources. After having obtained a good result with corn polenta, wheat (in different traditional varieties), spelt and barley, in recent years we have started the experience with millet and we hope to include other species in the near future, such as buckwheat, sunflower and others or improving the available selections. This work will certainly not give immediate economic results to member companies but it serves first of all to start offering a better food choice, especially with regard to cereals and the like as a dietary base of the 'Mediterranean diet' or, better, of the 'traditional diet'. The other purpose is to offer companies agronomic alternatives (still limited due to the already mentioned valuation of the products not yet adequate) to the classic rotations of vegetable soil or wheat-corn-barley. With the awareness of the current low profitability of products, we are moving wisely in order to avoid waste and to work on products on which to build development projects adapted to our needs. Our hope is to find attentive supporters of this path, cultural rather than agricultural, that will enable us to offer our members the best proposal for the development of our relationships.
