With regret, we must announce that this year 2017 the crops of “Maranello” vitreous corn from the fields of our member farmers have been compromised due to the climate trend and the massive attack of insects (Diabrotica and Piralide) and microfungi parasitic on corn.
The usual analyses carried out before processing the product generally show a rate of mycotoxins (produced precisely by fungi) higher than the legal limit for human consumption.
As is understandable, this is serious for the producers' lack of income and for the risk of losing the seed of these precious varieties of vitreous corn, whose reproduction we have been carefully working on for years. We are studying for 2018 what additional measures to take to avoid or reduce the problem.
After careful research, and thanks to the new collaboration between the Zapparoli Mill (which transforms all our flours) and La Grande Ruota (mill in Brescia), we can still offer you an excellent quality, stone-ground, semi-vitreous corn flour, free of mycotoxins. The flour is obtained from corn produced by the Gritti Daniele organic
farm in Lograto (Brescia) and is whole wheat, i.e. it also contains the 'foil', the finer part, sieved to obtain our 'craved' flour proposed last year. The result is a creamier but equally tasty polenta!
