Coppery onion from Milan

25.02.22

The coppery onion of Milan is a bulb of Lombard origin with a fragrant, sweet and delicately pungent pulp. Harvested in late summer, it can be easily stored until next spring. These shelf life, in addition to its excellent flavor, make it one of the best onions to consume fresh in winter. The delicate and sweet flavor favors the use raw in various salads but it is also excellent cooked in the oven.

How did it come to us?

Severino and Elia Bozzolan from Podere Clara (Legnaro) reserve part of their land for social gardens, one of the gardeners, of Lombard origin, has given some onions to our people who have forgotten some in a basket. Found in spring, they were still perfectly preserved. Intrigued, Severino and Elia involved our agronomist to search for these bulbs and... voila... the CULTURAL exchange... it worked!
