Why has Rainbow oil increased?

09.11.23

It is known that many agricultural raw materials, including oil, have decidedly higher prices than 2022.

This is the message of the Sicilian Rainbow Cooperative, of Anna Maria and her husband, associated for many years with El Tamiso to provide oil and citrus fruits, and who obviously enjoys our utmost trust and esteem:
“... we are writing to you because the Rainbow Cooperative has been producing oil and citrus fruits in the hills between Villafranca Sicula and Caltabellotta in beautiful Sicily: it is a well-ventilated, dry hilly area, where, thanks to the knowledge of ancient techniques, we take care of the ancient tradition of oil with the variety of olives Biancolilla delicate and with a unique scent. A unique pearl of tradition, ethics and good agriculture.
However, the wind has been changing for two years: the climate, the rains, the frosts, the drought, the continuous jeopardising of olive groves with sudden and violent hailstorms, means that the olives do not grow enough and the production is scarce. A situation that we are fighting with regenerative agriculture of land and soil, but the increase in costs and the lack of production bring us to our knees. Oil, such a beloved, indispensable and healthy product for us, has seen a price increase of more than 30% this year. The scarcity of production by foreign countries such as Spain and Morocco, has increased the demand for Italian oil at an international level. The increase in the costs of energy, electricity and raw materials has increased the cost of milling at the mill. What we do NOT want to reduce, however, is price equity at the value of the product, of the work, of the effort, of the right recognition.”

What we at the El Tamiso Cooperative also don't want is for oil to become a product for the few, because eating well is good for our planet and should not be a luxury. In this delicate historical moment, between wars, pandemics and speculations, it is a difficult task.
The objective of our cooperative within the supply chain is to weigh as little as possible on the final consumer: this is why we decided to reduce our mark-up compared to the previous year.
