These were two intense days full of emotions, the ones we just left behind. With manual harvesting
(thanks to our teachers Ignazio and Severino and to everyone, young and old, who with their work helped to form wheat sheaves) the party for the 28th birthday of “El Tamiso” has opened.
After Franco Zecchinato's brief greeting and a film by Veterinarians Without Borders that illustrated how small farmers in the countries in
Evidences of development are reacting to climate change, the excellent dinner prepared by the Costigliola kitchen, in collaboration with Cristina and Eleonora, was an excellent prelude to the magnificent evening, embellished with the notes of the CRANK JAZZ TRIO, thanks to the precious collaboration with the Khorakhanè association. Leonio once again gave us the screening of the short film on the Olmo district (a place that roughly corresponds to the current street in the United States), also in support of the Circolo Wigwam initiative in defense of one of the few remaining period houses.
Throughout the afternoon, adults and children had fun playing with ancient games or visiting the small stands connected to the cooperative. We then experienced the rite of gathering the dew of the night of Saint John's Day, presented around the bonfire, together with the preparation of nuts for the production of the nocino. We were accompanied in the arms of Morpheus by the sparkling music of ROUGH & TOUGH and an excellent draft beer. The next morning, at the same time as a bike ride and the
possibility of walking on donkey backs for children, a short meeting was held with Silvio Pino on the topic of conservation and management of the varieties of cereals widespread in our territory before the advent of multinational plant genetics that have heavily and negatively contributed to the loss of biodiversity of the genetic heritage for farmers.
In the afternoon we used the dew collected during the night to knead the sourdough in collaboration with the great Cristina from Biorekk. Soon after, while Isabella (wife of Diego Boscarolo) entertained and amused the children (outside and inside) with the creation of every type of toy, recovering the most disparate materials thanks to the association “il Moraro”, wheat was “beaten” with the music of Mama's in the background.
The evening ended with a dinner in support of the September 2012 meeting on degrowth in Venice, with Gianni Tamino.
But beyond each specific event, the thing that everyone appreciated was the simplicity with which everyone's experiences were discovered and shared, in the name of friendship and the certainty of a choice in harmony with the nature that surrounds us.
Thanks to everyone who worked before, during and after the two days for making us feel really good. Thanks to everyone who wanted to be there to show us their sympathy and to all those who couldn't make it... see you next year!
