Produced in 2016 in the member companies: Cooperativa Caresà (Piove di Sacco, PD), Fortin Maurizio (Pernumia, PD), Furlan (Pegolotte di Cona, VE) and Abbiate Valerio (Guiglia, MO). This last member produces and personally selects the Spelta seed for the other members.
Spelt, the ancestor of soft wheat, has a low gluten content (therefore more digestible) and a high amount of fiber. The 2016 production was positive both in terms of quality and quantity of product.
Harvested in July 2016, it is dehulled by “Agricola Grains” in Arre (PD), and then stone-ground and packaged by “The Big Wheel” in Sermide (MN).
We are still using the 2016 production because most of it has remained unsold: although our spelt is highly appreciated, we cannot compete with the prices of the high quantity of foreign product that has invaded the market. For this reason, we have also reduced the area for 2017 to a minimum waiting and in the hope that this market situation will be unlocked.
