A breath of fresh air arrived at the cooperative's fruit and vegetable counter in Piazza delle Erbe in Padua.
After twenty years of militancy, the producing partner Giuseppe “Bepi” Boregolato leaves the management of the historic store to enjoy his well-deserved retirement. A hard work, which starts at five in the morning with the selection on the stand of the best products to offer in the square and which continues until 14, backed by Eleonora Berto, to dispense advice on the varieties and qualities of the proposals and on how to translate them into succulent dishes.
When the time came to change hands, the cooperative opted for a decisive renewal focusing on three young mothers, two of whom are daughters of founding members, who have been following the retail proposal of our products for several years.
And so, a few weeks ago, Adriana Zecchinato, Erica Borgato and Patrizia Piccolo joined Eleonora Berto (see her recipes) to form an exclusively female group.
The proposal, always with an eye to quality and attention to local production, is also extended to Monday, with the usual effort to propose as far as possible the productions of the members of the cooperative, integrated with fair-trade ones (for bananas) and with those coming from a project to support rural communities that practice organic agriculture in Peru (fresh quinoa, ginger and turmeric...). Greater attention will also be given to processed products, many of which come from Padua's fields, such as spelt,
barley, cornmeal coveted for polenta, and others from member fields such as
Valerio Abbiate, who produces chickpeas in the Modena hills.
and
lentils.
