Our Cooperative has been associated with ConfAgricultura Padova for many years, not so much for “ideological” or organizational reasons (there has always been someone who made us observe the potential contradiction), but because of the good quality of the technical/bureaucratic services offered and the excellent relationship with the Management of Renzo Cavestro.
We also recall that the ConfAgricultura of Padua, and not only that, also has several biological associates, some of which are also our members; that the undersigned was also a member of the Provincial Board with the previous presidency of Antonio Da Porto, a worthy person and a pure organic company; that the same Organization has loyally supported us at various times, in the promotion of local organic products and in “biological” claims against the Veneto Region; that several times we have been reaffirmed the pride of having El Tamiso among its members.
But all this is not enough to be able to live together in a national organization that has made the transgenic option one of its leading political choices, in the presence of many elementary arguments that confirm that this is simply a favor for multinational chemical companies, which are appropriating agricultural genetics through the patenting and total control of seeds.
An incomprehensible favor, which we do not consider to be in the interest of our country's agro-food model, much less of its agriculture and its farmers.
In this case, it is not enough to adopt the principle of “freedom” of business and the coexistence of different options, simply because it is evident that the freedom to cultivate GMOs prevents equal freedom for those who do not want it, when they cannot even afford contamination by law, as in our biological activity.
And the contamination is there, as confirmed by the recent “provocative” and illegal crops, carried out in Friuli by the various Dalla Libera and Fidenato, publicly supported by ConfAgricultura — which elevates Mr. Dalla Libera to the rank of public speaker.
It would have been anachronistic for us to declare ourselves against a development model that does not take into account the territory in which it is located but forces those who adopt it to become slaves to the same supplier, in a distorted and anti-liberal logic, and to continue in the associative relationship.
At the moment we will continue to use the services of ConfAgricultura, even if we are not members, and in the meantime we will look around... even if the landscape is not particularly encouraging.
In this regard, our members will make their own independent evaluations, we are available.
