Coming soon: potatoes, leeks, garlic!

11.09.12

Returning from vacation is generally traumatic, even for those who don't go there... This year September began with a certain amount of rainfall (which varies depending on the area since in many areas up to 100 liters per square meter fell and in others it didn't really rain) that broke the drought that had lasted for months.

Almost all the potatoes and even the garlic that we tried to make in a certain quantity for this year have now been harvested. It was a satisfaction to see a good production for potatoes (produced by Bozza, Damo, De Lazzari, Tognon, Zecchinato the first and then those of Abbiate will also arrive from the Modena hills) which, after some experiences, is taking hold and is confirming itself as an excellent choice as regards the activated production chain (the seeds come from Emilia Romagna - and for the most part from one of our partners - instead of from Holland or Belgium as for the vast majority of potato productions). Even the garlic produced by Bozza David, which will be increased on the surface, is a confirmation of the desire to offer local products to our customers for as long as possible, even though we know that the market value does not fully repay the efforts undertaken for cultivation.

The leek harvest begins (az. Cà Solare) but we are ready to intervene to avoid the damage that the leek fly could cause, since after the first 15 days of September the flights and oviposition begin (with the consequent birth of the larvae that feed on the leaves digging tunnels that lead them to the base of the bulb where they enter the phase of winter “hibernation” which involves significant damage since it is necessary to remove many leaves to eliminate the “sleeping larvae”) of the second generation.
