At the beginning of spring, we expected a more lenient climate to allow us to prepare the ground for the start of the new season.
We are collecting the last radishes (az. Cà Girotto), the latest cabbage (az. Podere Clara), leeks (Podere Clara and Traverso), Modena potatoes (Abbiate), Jerusalem artichokes (Tognon and Cà Girotto)... in short, we are at the “lower dead end” to put it in terms dear to motor enthusiasts.
We are ready to plant potato tubers, to sow peas and the very first green beans, carrots (with which difficulties this year we will try to deal with in three different companies), in the greenhouses we have transplanted salads, cucumbers, the first zucchini...
We are finishing pruning the fruit plants and cleaning the hedges taking advantage of the last cold weather, even if the vegetation is already ahead due to an absolutely not cold winter (even if we fear a few late frosts).
There are those who predict a rainy year, those who predict a dry year... we'll see.
In the meantime, we have already planned to soon sow millet (this year 2 hectares divided between La Costigliola and Cà Girotto) and a test of buckwheat (5 thousand square meters from Boregolato), to bring back to us what corn has eliminated in now fifty years of monoculture.
