“A seed is a small spaceship, a completely self-sufficient capsule, perfect for traveling through space and time” this simple and poetic definition by
Lorenza Zambon, an actress gardener, encompasses all the importance of this small plant organism, an embryo of life and therefore the repository of our future. An increasingly predetermined future, decided by logics that have nothing to do with respect for nature and its rhythms, and so too the seed is genetically manipulated, preset according to market canons and sterilized so that it cannot reproduce (thus making agriculture increasingly “dependent” on who sells the seeds). Starting from these considerations and concerns, the theme of the El Biológico market festival in Piassa on October 5,
www.elbiologicoinpiassa.it, hosted for this edition by Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Frutti, which will be filled, with colorful banquets with various proposals for products from organic agriculture and sustainable craftsmanship and by numerous events scattered throughout the day that will bring us back to the central theme of the importance of seeds and that of what is strictly connected to food sovereignty.
And so in the squares we will find Peasant Civilization with the exhibition of “ancient” varieties and the free exchange of seeds, great visibility will be attributed to the cultural association “The Friends of Plaustro” with educational workshops and courses on the processing phases of corn, exhibition of different varieties of corn and finally in “glory” Lorenza Zambon will kidnap us with the show entitled “Seeds of the Future. Third lesson for planetary gardeners.”
In which it is narrated:
of seeds that are like small spaceships and that travel through time, of weeds that mend the tears in the web of life, of flowers of bombs, of metropolis of the future, of the explosion of city gardens, of the vegetables that colonize balconies, of the spread of guerrilla gardening... Of the planting of new landscapes.
And the teachings spread:
of unsuspected master gardeners, small planetary gardeners without power, full of power... like that young American who created a farm under a skyscraper or that great Indian woman who fights for the seeds of the future...
By the way... the great woman in question,
Vandana Shiva, will be in Padua on October 12 (in the morning at the Goldoni theater in Bagnoli and in the afternoon at the Carotta Fornace at the Holy Family) guest of El Tamiso who will so worthily close the celebrations for the thirtieth anniversary of the Cooperative. Soon updates and program on the event on this site.
