The Conspiracy of Hope

I'd like to ask you for a minute to read this invitation.

Perhaps you are already thinking that I am yet another intrusive individual who allows himself to bother you and in a few lines it is likely that you will find my proposal extremely presumptuous... if not crazy.

In fact, I'm here to propose that you participate in a conspiracy.

Calm down! I don't ask you to carry out criminal actions, to send money, to do, buy or subscribe to anything... and not even to give up other events, move to a place, connect to the computer...

You can be present at this event while staying anywhere in the world you will find yourself at midnight on December 31, 2011 tuning in to your mind,

for the time of a single breath, with the Conspiracy of Hope.



At the stroke of midnight toast, dance, sing, hug your loved ones,

or stay in solitude... and at the same time let's treat ourselves to this little experience: inhale and exhale deeply thinking intensely about the thing or value in which you believe most. At that moment I ask you not to think about problems or concerns: imagine something or someone that you want to see grow in the near future.

Other people (including me), whom you do not know and will never know directly, will breathe in and out together (conspiring derives precisely from conspiring: breathing together), evoking at the same moment, with you, their greatest hope.

That is why it is the Conspiracy of Hope.

I ask you, if you want, to write down the thought you made and send it to me with the most convenient means for you: text messages, email, Facebook (please also concentrate this in the time of a breath: three, four words at most).

I will create a work using all the hopes and desires (together with the names or pseudonyms of those who want to provide them) that will be sent to me by midnight on January 3.

I am committed to carrying out this project and to communicating to you where it will be exposed by the end of the next tour that the Earth will have made around the Sun (that fraction of our time that we conventionally call a year).

For me, hope is the ability that we all possess to believe in potential:

It is that extraordinary power that allows us to look at a seed and to see inside, in addition to all the pitfalls that will threaten it, the immense tree that it will become.

I look forward to nourishing myself also with your hopes

At the end of last year we received this invitation from Claudio Bizzotto, a historic organic producer from Bassano del Grappa, our dear friend, customer and supplier.

But above all, a man who best interprets the definition of an artist that Francesco D'Assisi once gave:

Who works with their hands is a worker

Who works with his hands and his head is an artisan

someone who works with their hands, head and heart is an artist.

And Claudio is also an artist on a pictorial and creative level!

Many of us now know his works, exhibitions and initiatives.

And it is a great comfort to welcome him into the group of 'artists' as defined above by one who was its forerunner.

We are also convinced, just to remain in our time, that the Italian organic world has a great need to relaunch itself culturally, after twenty years of “distraction”, dedicated to organization, commerce and controls, based on this type of people.

People who have been able to express culture and knowledge in their dimensions as responsible men and women able to breathe in one with the world.

Some of us' co-spied 'at midnight on New Year's Eve, and whether or not we sent our co-spire to Claudio.

But there's still time to do it until the Spring Equinox.

From the great support that there has been, many ideas and initiatives have been born, but I will pass on the floor again to Claudio Humu.



“The Conspiracy of Hope wants to give life - with small concrete but timely actions (therefore in the short term) - in the receptive territorial realities - to a humble but patient project, which will gradually evolve in the most appropriate times and ways for this critical but fruitful period that we are going through.

For the moment, they have offered willingness to receive plants:

- El Tamiso, organic farming co-op. - Padua

- Terravivabio, organic farm - Ferrara

- Monica Guasti, farm - Parma

We are also contacting other companies throughout the country

For the time being, we have planned these three events in succession:

- planting trees: to which will be combined with the hopes expressed in the original midnight event on January 1 (thoughts will be written on raku tiles, on recycled materials, etc.).

This event will be held simultaneously on the first weekend of spring through local groups that will take part in all the places mentioned above

- symbolic expropriation: at a later date, carpet pegs with a unique message-logo will be planted simultaneously on all public places (roundabouts, roadsides, unguarded public areas...) where there may be a tree. This is to draw attention to the problem of the landscape (go and see yourself if you can www.salviamoillandsaggio.it)

- counter-strike: by the end of this year, the Conspiracy wants to go so far as to ask the relevant local administrations to entrust degraded, abandoned or simply available to implement landscape and relational restoration projects voluntarily and free of charge (urban gardens also come to mind...)

I realize that all this may seem chaotic and in some ways incomprehensible to you, but we are working with many minds to make everything more fluid, understandable and concrete: after all, less than a month ago, we had only a few thoughts of virtual hope in the network... I am convinced that things will evolve quickly!”

We at El Tamiso are passing the word to our farming partners, and to those who want to contact us, to welcome these trees, which Claudio is taking care of finding.

Trees that we imagine of essences and varieties linked to our territory, landscape and traditions.

But we really like the idea that we can do a lot together even without being physically and necessarily side by side, but with a great common spirit.
